So I’m obviously eons behind on this challenge and have already failed it by not posting everyday but whatever. I’m making an effort, okay? XD
21 is the magic number when you’re a youngin’ dreaming of the day you get to join the big kids at the bars. Every year, thousands of underage young adults die of alcohol poisoning. I really believe that if the drinking age was lowered to 18 like in Britain, there would be less alcohol-poisoning-related deaths.
The United States clearly is a country that enjoys its alcohol. When prohibition was implemented in the country, thousands of speakeasies opened up across the country to satisfy the country’s alcoholic needs. In today’s society, prohibiting persons under the age of 21 encourages the same thing. Many teenagers and college students will one time or another (usually very often) find themselves presented in a situation where they’re offered a drink while being underage. More often than not, these teens do end up taking the drink and very rarely are they ever caught or reprimanded. Being in the rebellious stage of their lives, teenagers tend to do things that go against the rules and are exciting/thrilling. Once the thought of wanting to drink alcohol is placed in their minds, actually getting the alcohol isn’t that difficult. Like speakeasies during Prohibition, obtaining alcohol illegally isn’t very difficult if you know where to find it. By lowering the age of legal alcohol consumption to 18, the idea of drinking alcohol seems less glorified. Of course, lowering the age won’t eliminate the problem—it’s probably impossible to do that. However, by lowering the age and increasing the lessons on reasonable amounts of alcohol consumption, I think teens will be less inclined to try to be rebels and overdose on alcohol.
I know that was a horrible piece but I didn’t feel like writing something glorious today. Sorry XD
